Installation Instructions

OWNER/OCCUPANT/INSTALLER RESPONSIBILITY:


Hardwood Flooring is a beautiful and unique product of nature and each piece is characterized by distinctive variations in grain, color and other natural characteristics. Color variations may also change due to exposure to light. These natural variations are not flaws or defects. Your hardwood flooring is manufactured in accordance with accepted industry standards.


When ordering hardwood flooring, the installer must order 5-10% in excess of the accurately measured floor area to be covered, depending upon the layout (diagonal installations may require more) to allow for waste and other factors as explained below.


Your hardwood flooring should be installed by an experienced Hardwood Flooring Installer.


The installer and owner/occupant customer assume all responsibility for proper handling after delivery, storage, security and protection and acclimation of the flooring at the jobsite.


Before installation, the owner/occupant/installer are required to fully and carefully inspect the flooring for grain, color, finish, natural characteristics and any other appearance or quality issue that any of them may find unacceptable. Use reasonable selectivity and discard or cut off pieces that are unacceptable before installation. Do not install any such flooring that has an observable deficiency. ONCE INSTALLED, THE STRIPS ARE CONSIDERED TO BE ACCEPTED BY THE INSTALLER AND THE OWNER/OCCUPANT. If the unacceptable flooring is beyond the industry standards and more than 5-10%, depending on layout, for waste and such variations (diagonal installations may require more), then contact your dealer immediately. The manufacturer is not responsible for the failure of the owner/occupant/installer to meet any of these important responsibilities.

 

INSTALLATION CONSTITUTES ACCEPTANCE.


Before installation, the installer must determine that the environment of the jobsite and the condition and type of the subfloor involved are acceptable and meet or exceed all requirements specified in the following instructions. The manufacturer is not responsible for the failure of the installer to examine or to assure that the environment and the subfloor are fully ready for the installation.


After installation, the owner/occupant is responsible to maintain proper temperature and relative humidity conditions as well as to maintain and care for the installed flooring, as hardwood flooring can suffer irreversible damage if not properly maintained in accordance with the proper Care and Maintenance Instructions (enclosed).


The reasonable and proper use of stain, filler and/or putty stick for the correction of conditions within industry standards for natural products are normal procedures for which the manufacturer is not responsible.


JOBSITE INSPECTION


The installation site should have consistent room temperature of between 60ᵒ-78ᵒF, preferably 68ᵒ-72ᵒF, and a constant relative humidity level of between 40%-55%, preferably 45%-50%, for a minimum of 5 days prior to delivery, acclimation (which is to be no less than an additional 5 days) and installation of any Hardwood Flooring.


In new construction, Hardwood Flooring should be the last item installed. All work involving water or moisture (concrete installation and finishing, plumbing, plastering, drywall installation and finishing, painting, etc.) should be finished with ample time allowed for complete drying prior to wood flooring being installed.


Concrete subfloors should be fully cured for at least 60-90 days before the delivery of the hardwood flooring to the jobsite.


Check basements and under floor crawl spaces to be sure that they are dry and well ventilated to avoid damage caused by moisture. Hardwood flooring requires that at least a 6 mil vapor barrier be placed over the entire surface of the ground in crawl spaces that are not finished with cement.


Do not open cartons or other packaging containing Hardwood Flooring until the installer intends to begin the acclimation process. Do not stand the cartons on ends or sides. Store the cartons flat with proper support on the ends and center sections in a dry place, being sure to provide at least a four-inch air space under and around the cartons. Stack the cartons no more than 3-4 high to ensure efficient ventilation. Do not store cartons directly on concrete or next to outside walls. Cartons should be placed as close to the center of the installation area as possible, away from exterior walls, windows, and doors. Cartons should be stacked so that air can flow between all of the cartons. Keep out of direct sunlight and away from air vents.


ACCLIMATION


Before beginning the acclimation process, check the Moisture Content of the subfloor. It must be 10% or less. If it is more than 10%, the subfloor is not ready for the acclimation/installation of the flooring. To acclimate the flooring, remove the boards from the cartons and carefully stack them in the area in which they will be installed, with stickers between each row, with each row stacked perpendicularly to the other to ensure maximum airflow. The flooring must acclimate for a minimum of 5 days. Prior to installation, additional moisture tests should be done on the flooring to be installed to be sure that the flooring has indeed acclimated to Equilibrium Moisture Content (EMC).


Handle the Hardwood Flooring with care.

SUBFLOOR PREPARATION

APPROVED SUBFLOOR TYPES:


APA approved 3/4” (23/32”) T&G Plywood (CD Exposure 1) or 3/4” (23/32”) OSB (Exposture 1) on truss/joist of more than 16”, up to 19.2” o/c. (Panels need to be glued and mechanically fastened.)


APA approved 5/8” (19/32”) plywood (CD Exposure 1) or 23/32” OSB (Exposure 1) on truss/joist of 16” o/c or less.


Concrete slab with additional approved wood sleepers and screed system. (See NWFA’s guidelines)


Wood floors (if installed at proper angle only).


Resilient tile and sheet vinyl if installed over an above mentioned and approved subfloor.


NOTE: When installing approved plywood, refer to specific manufacturer’s instructions.


DO NOT INSTALL OVER PARTICLE BOARD OR THE EQUIVALENT.


SUBFLOOR MUST BE:


CLEAN – Scraped or sanded, swept, and free of wax, grease, paint, oil and other debris.


SMOOTH/FLAT/LEVEL – Within 1/8” in every 6’ span. Sand or grind high areas or fill low areas with cement-based leveling compound with no less than 3000 psi rating.


STRUCTURALLY SOUND – Nail or screw down any loose areas that squeak or reveal movement. Replace any damaged subfloor material.


DRY – Moisture content of wood subfloors must not exceed 10% prior to installation of wood flooring.


Wood Subfloor: Moisture Content testing must be performed on all sub flooring/substrates and the wood prior to installation. This is to determine if the areas to receive the new wood floor coverings are within the industry’s maximum moisture tolerances. In addition, the wood flooring’s moisture content must not exceed 10% and it must be within 2% for plank flooring 3 inch or wider (or 4% for 2-1/4 inch wide strip flooring) of any subfloor on which it is to be installed. These tests should be documented in writing, signed by the end user, then placed in the job folder for future reference.


These Moisture Content guidelines must be met or the jobsite is not ready to receive an installation.


Concrete Slabs: Concrete subfloors must register dry.


Pre-existing wood panels or strips must be removed from the concrete slab before installation.


NOTE: Also check all site drainage to make sure all exterior water flows are directed away from the jobsite.


Use the method below to determine whether moisture is present in the concrete subfloor:


The Polyfilm Mat Test: tape down 3’ x 3’ polyfilm squares in several places on the floor (one every 200 square feet and especially adjacent to exterior walls and plumbing fixtures).


Wait 24-48 hours, remove and check for the appearance of condensation or a darkening of the concrete slab.


Either occurrence signals the likely presence of excess moisture, in which case corrective measures must be performed by a qualified flooring professional.


OR


The 3% Phenolphthalein in Anhydrous Alcohol Solution Test: in several places on the floor (one every 200 square feet and especially adjacent to exterior walls and plumbing fixtures) chip 1/4 inch deep into the concrete test area and apply several drops of the solution – do not apply the solution directly to the concrete surface.
If any change in color is observed, further testing is required.


OR


The Calcium Chloride ASTM-1869 Test: in several places on the floor (one every 250 square feet and especially adjacent to exterior walls and plumbing fixtures).


Moisture transfer should not exceed 3 lbs/1,000 square feet with this test.


OR


The Tramex Concrete Moisture Encounter Meter: in several places on the floor (one every 250 square feet and especially adjacent to exterior walls and plumbing fixtures) the meter should be applied according to the manufacturer’s instructions.


Moisture readings using this device should not exceed 4.5 on the upper scale.


OR


The Relative Humidity In-Situ ASTM F 217002 Standard Test: in several places on the floor (one every 250 square feet and especially adjacent to exterior walls and plumbing fixtures) insert the probe in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.


In-Situ Probes Quantification of Relative Humidity – Probes should be inserted at multiple depths to obtain a more accurate evaluation of the slab’s relative humidity – at the deepest reading, the probes must be inserted a minimum of 40% of the total concrete thickness.


The relative humidity readings inside of the concrete slab should not exceed 75% at any depth.


NO MATTER WHICH TEST YOU USE, THE TEST SITE MUST BE MAINTAINED FOR 48 HOURS BEFORE AND DURING THE TEST PERIOD AT THE SAME TEMPERATURE AND HUMIDITY CONDITIONS WHICH WILL OCCUR DURING NORMAL OCCUPANCY. IF MEETING THESE CRITERIA IS NOT POSSIBLE, THEN DO NOT PROCEED.


Concrete Slabs (regardless of existing floor covering) must have a minimum of 3/4 inch plywood installed as a screed/sleeper system with a minimum of 6 mil polyfilm vapor barrier secured to the slab.


JOBSITE PREPARATION


Always check and double-check that all of the above instructions have been followed.


Make certain that you have sufficient material to complete the job; remember that you must have on-hand 5-10% in excess of the accurately measured floor area to be covered, depending upon the layout (diagonal installations may require more) to allow for waste, minor natural or manufacturer’s defects.


Undercut door casings.


Remove any existing wall base, shoe molding, quarter round, doorway threshold, or any other trim and molding.


Always lay out the flooring utilizing several different cartons worth of material at the same time to ensure a proper mix of color, grain and shading.


Always use the equipment, tools and other items recommended for the product to be installed.


STEP I: BEGINNING THE INSTALLATION


Before starting, measure the width of the room and divide the room’s width by the width of the plank. If this means that the last row of planks will be narrower than 2”, you will need to cut the first and last row of planks to be installed in such a way that both rows of planks will have the same approximate width for an overall continuous look. [See Step III: INSTALLING THE LAST ROW.]


NOTE: To cut the boards, always saw with the saw teeth cutting down into the face or top of the board. Cutting from the top down helps protect the surface. Use a carbide tip blade to ensure smooth cuts.


NOTE: Flooring must ONLY be fastened through the tongue – never through the groove side.


Always install Hardwood Flooring with the groove side of the plank facing the wall. Begin the installation at the corner of the room so that the two grooves can be placed against the walls to form a corner. Be sure to leave an expansion gap of approximately 1/2” using 1/2” spacers along all walls [See #3 below]. If the starting wall is not straight, it may be necessary to scribe the first row to match the wall, allowing the opposite side of the row to present a true square base for the rest of the floor.

 

Once the installation of the first row is complete, there will be an extra piece from the last piece of flooring which, if big enough, due to the aesthetic criteria, will be the first piece of flooring for the next row. In order to install this piece you must place its groove at an approximate 30ᵒ angle onto the tongue of the first row. Continue this method for the other pieces in the row and use a hammer and tapping block to gently, but firmly, push the second row’s groove onto the tongue of the first row.


Use the manufacturer’s recommended prefinished footplate to prevent marring of wood edge lip (Compressor and Hose Nylon/Plastic Tapping Block InLine Regulator).


Use minimum 1-1/2” (38.10mm) nails recommended by the nailer/stapler manufacturer. A minimum of 2 fasteners must be placed within 1”-3” from the ends of the boards, spaced at 6”-8” (152-203mm) intervals for 3”-4” width flooring, and spaced at 4”-6” (102-152mm) intervals for flooring wider than 4”.


Set the compressor at 70 psi (480 kPa) and test this level as required below. Fasten several sacrificial boards to the floor. At least two boards, nailed side by side, must be used to indicate proper machine adjustments. Check for surface damage, air pressure setting, tongue damage, edge blistering, etc., before proceeding. If, for example, any tongue damage occurs, then lower the air pressure. Make all adjustments and corrections before installation begins. Once proper adjustments have been made, remove and destroy boards.


Using the proper spacers, provide a gap for the seasonal expansion of the flooring along the walls of the entire room. Always place expansion spacers against the wall every 2’-3’. Also, place spacers at the end of each row to ensure proper locking of planks.


NOTE: Larger rooms require additional expansion space along the walls. Add 1/16” to the width of the expansion space for every 3’ the room extends beyond 25’. Rooms exceeding 30’ in length or width require the use of a T-molding for expansion. Expansion gaps must not be filled under any circumstances.


Once the first three rows are completed and correctly installed, you will have a straight, even base established.


STEP II: INSTALLING THE REST OF THE FLOOR


Always stagger at least 8” between end joints of adjacent board rows, because the end joints should not repeat visually across the installed floor. The staggered end joints should be random across the room. Never use a repeating pattern.


The last 3-4 rows will require face nailing when clearance does not allow blind nailing with a nailer or brad nailer. Pre-drill and face nail or pneumatically nail on the tongue side of these last rows, following the nailing pattern of the first row.


STEP III: INSTALLING THE LAST ROW


The last row of flooring in a room usually requires the installer to cut the planks lengthwise. In order to do so, place the last plank over the next-to-last row, marking the exact cut and taking into account the 1/2” expansion gap with regard to the wall [See Step I, #2 above]. Once the process is completed, remove the wedges and proceed to install the base boards and profiles, which will cover the expansion gap without obstructing it. Surfaces installed larger than 796 square feet may require additional expansion joints [See Step I, #3 Note above].


SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCES


Doorways and Room-to-Room Installations:


Attempting to continue installing rows through a doorway into another room can be difficult because the narrow opening is a very small base upon which to continue consistent, even rows into the next room. T-moldings are available to install in doorways when joining flooring room to room. Every doorway less than 6’ wide may need to be transitioned using a T-molding. Flow-through installs are allowed only if the total length of the flow-through does not exceed 30’ and the flow-through doorway is 6’ or wider. To correctly align plank rows from room to room, it is best to use a master reference line that runs through the doorway to the far ends of each room involved. Position the line so that it is perpendicular from the corresponding wall and parallel to the side walls. Use this line to align the plank rows from room to room.


Pipes, vents and other fixed objects: Each instance of these items can be unique, but the general rule is to measure very carefully before you cut and remember to leave a 1/2” expansion gap between the object and the flooring. You will cover the expansion gaps with molding, vent covers or pipe rings when the floor is complete.


INSTALLATION ON STAIRS


Working from the top step down, flooring should be installed using a premium grade wood flooring adhesive and screw type fasteners or nails. All stair nose moldings must be glued and nailed/screwed every 8” as a safety precaution.


INSTALLATION OVER EXISTING HARDWOOD FLOORING


Hardwood flooring must be installed at minimum at a right angle to the direction of the existing flooring.


CARE AND MAINTENANCE GUIDE:


Failure to follow these care and maintenance guides will void the product warranties as to any condition or defect that may have been avoided.


Your hardwood floors are factory-finished with a durable finish, but the consumer must follow some simple care and maintenance procedures to keep the floor looking its best and help to protect it from unnecessary wear and damage.


Sweep or vacuum the floor (with an appropriate broom or vacuum attachment) regularly to keep it clean and free of dirt, oil, dust, grit, sand and other abrasive and foreign materials.


Place area rugs or doormats at entryways to help prevent sand, grit, oils, dirt and other abrasive or staining materials from being tracked onto the floor surface from outdoors. Avoid rubber-backed or similarly dense matting materials that may trap moisture between the mat and the floor; choose mats that enable airflow instead and do not discolor the floor.


Place protective mats at high-use work areas such as sinks, ranges and workstations.


Protect the floor from any exposure to liquids, water and other forms of moisture. Blot up any spilled food, drink, or other liquid immediately.


Never wet mop the floor when cleaning. The floor finish is not waterproof.


Avoid walking on the floor with wet feet or wet footwear.


Use a damp – not wet – and clean cloth to wipe up spills or spots as soon as they happen. If such cleaning does not remove the stain, then contact a flooring professional to determine if and how such stain may be treated.


Ensure that environmental conditions are maintained with a temperature of between 60-78ᵒF (preferably 68-72ᵒF) and relative humidity at between 40-55% (preferably 45-50%) AT ALL TIMES, otherwise cupping, gapping, splitting, etc. will result for which there is no warranty.


Hardwood flooring will naturally undergo a change in color as it adjusts to UV light coming through any windows and also the ambient light conditions of your home environment. The degree of color change varies by species. To ensure a uniform change, it is recommended that you do not place area rugs on the new floor for sixty days after installation. Thereafter, periodic re-arrangement of furniture and area rugs will help ensure that your flooring colors evenly.


Use floor protectors and wide bearing leg bases/rollers to minimize indentations and scratching from heavy objects. As a rule of thumb, the heavier the object, the wider the floor protector should be.


Avoid letting sharp or pointed objects come into contact with the floor surface. Do not walk on the floor with high-heeled shoes, sports cleats, or other types of footwear which may damage the finish or cause indentations to the surface.


Pets’ nails will scratch and mark the floor surface. Keep pets’ nails trimmed to minimize damage to the floor surface.


Do not drag, push or roll appliances, furniture or any heavy object across the floor. Use heavy-duty moving mats, dollies, or other moving aids to protect the floor surface.


Do not use rubber or foam backed plastic mats as they may discolor the floor. To prevent slippage use an approved vinyl rug underlayment.


CLEANING


Routine sweeping or vacuuming will keep the floor clear of most dust, grit and debris.


For more thorough cleaning use a wood floor cleaning solution approved for use with your Hardwood flooring (available at your dealer). Follow the product instructions.
Never use any household or furniture “dust remover”, “polish”, or similar product.


Never use any oil-based cleaner, wax, polish, or other product.


Never use any detergent, soap, steel wool, scouring pad or the like, or any other abrasive or ammoniated cleaner.


PRODUCT LIMITED WARRANTIES


These warranties apply only if the following six (6) conditions are met: (1) the original customer who purchased the floor is making the warranty claim, (2) that claim is for the flooring located at the original site of installation, in its original manufactured condition (that is, properly installed, reasonable wear and use excepted), (3) the floor has been used for residential use only, (4) there has been full compliance with all of the other provisions of these limited warranties, without exception, (5) manufacturer has been fully paid for the flooring and (6) manufacturer receives the claim within thirty (30) days of the occurrence of the alleged defect. These warranties are not transferable. These warranties may not be altered by any dealer, installer, agent, distributor of this Hardwood flooring, or anyone else.


MANUFACTURING LIFETIME WARRANTY


For the lifetime of the originally installed flooring, the manufacturer warrants that this Hardwood flooring shall not contain manufacturing defects caused by improper milling, dimension, or grading, individually or together, in excess of industry standards (that is, 5% of the total flooring installed, except as to the finish, which must affect at least 10% - see below). Any defects, individually or together, affecting less than 5% of the installed floor (10% as to the finish) are not covered. If manufacturing defects are present in excess of industry standards in the uninstalled Hardwood flooring, then the defective pieces should be returned to the original place of purchase PRIOR TO INSTALLATION. IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE CUSTOMER AND INSTALLER TO INSPECT ALL PIECES OF FLOORING FOR DEFECTS PRIOR TO INSTALLATION. FLOORING THAT HAS BEEN INSTALLED WILL BE DEEMED TO HAVE BEEN ACCEPTED BY THE CUSTOMER AND WILL NOT BE ELIGIBLE FOR REPLACEMENT EXCEPT AS TO LATENT DEFECTS COVERED BY THIS WARRANTY.


If manufacturer deems the flooring to be defective, manufacturer will replace it with an equivalent quantity of the same or similar product. MANUFACTURER WILL NOT REIMBURSE ANY INSTALLATION FEES OR LABOR COSTS. If manufacturer is unable to furnish an equivalent replacement product, manufacturer may, at its sole discretion, elect to refund the customer a portion of the original purchase price equivalent to the apportioned purchase price of the defective portion of the floor. Under no circumstances will the value of a warranty claim exceed the original purchase price of the product.


FIFTY YEAR FINISH WARRANTY


The manufacturer warrants that the factory finish on this Hardwood Flooring will not wear through for a period of 50 years from the date of purchase under normal residential traffic conditions and use in excess of 10% of the total flooring installed – any defects, individually or together, affecting less than 10% are not covered, and PROVIDED THAT THE CARE & MAINTENANCE GUIDE AND THE INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS HAVE BEEN FULLY COMPLIED WITH. If wear-through does occur within the warranty period, manufacturer will, at its sole discretion, either repair the affected portion of the floor or replace it with an equivalent quantity of the same or similar product at no charge to the customer. If manufacturer is unable to repair the product or is unable to furnish an equivalent replacement product, manufacturer may, at its sole discretion, elect to refund to the customer a portion of the original purchase price equivalent to the apportioned purchase price of the defective portion of the floor. This is the sole remedy provided by this warranty. Any other incidental or consequential damages or costs incurred by the customer as a result of the defective piece of flooring, including any labor costs incurred to remove and reinstall affected portions of flooring will not be covered by this warranty.

 

WARRANTY EXCLUSIONS – (READ CAREFULLY)

 

THE FOLLOWING CONDUCT AND CONDITIONS ARE NOT COVERED BY THE LIMITED WARRANTIES AND ARE NOT DEEMED TO BE MANUFACTURING OR FINISH DEFECTS:


Naturally occurring imperfections and variations in color, grain and appearance are inherent to the nature of the product and are not considered defects.


Such imperfections and variations that may differ from illustrations and samples.


The color of hardwood is affected by natural light and flooring will change color after installation.


New or replacement Hardwood flooring may not match display samples, existing flooring, or other products and furnishings in your home.


Surface wear in high traffic areas (such as doorways, hallways, in front of appliances and sinks, etc.).


Gloss reduction is not considered surface wear.


Scratches, indentations, marks, stains or other damage caused by negligent or accidental exposure to pebbles, grit, sand or other abrasives, contaminants, pets, insects, high heeled or cleated shoes, dragging furniture or appliances across the flooring, not using felt pads under furniture legs, wheel roller chairs with rollers that are not made of barrel type rollers with non-marking rubber, fire, product spills, excessive moisture, heat or dryness are not considered normal wear and are not covered by this warranty. Any product deformity that is not measurable or that is visible only in a certain angle is not considered a defect. Defects are evaluated by their visibility from a reasonable vertical distance (standing height) from the floor. Installation must be performed in accordance with the installation instructions included with the product and in accordance with local building codes. Hardwood flooring is for indoor residential use only.


Environmental conditions must be maintained as specified, with temperature of 60-78ᵒF (preferably 68-72ᵒF) and humidity at 40-55% (preferably 45-50%) at all times. Exposure to higher or lower levels of heat and/or humidity may result in expansion and/or contraction of the floor boards resulting in separation between joints, cupping or splitting of boards, or other problems.


Problems resulting from exposure to levels of heat and/or humidity other than those specified herein are not covered by this warranty.


Damage caused by flooding, broken pipes, wet mopping, moisture, liquid, chemicals, or any other exposure to any contaminants.


Gapping, checking, splitting, cupping or other problems resulting from exposure to improper environmental conditions.


FAILURE TO FOLLOW MANUFACTURER’S WRITTEN INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS.


FAILURE TO FOLLOW CARE AND MAINTENANCE GUIDES.
EXPANSION AND CONTRACTION BETWEEN BOARDS OR ANY OTHER PROBLEMS ARISING FROM IMPROPER HEAT AND/OR HUMIDITY LEVELS. [Ensure that environmental conditions are maintained with a temperature of between 60-78ᵒF (preferably 68-72ᵒF) and relative humidity at 40-55% (preferably 45-50%) AT ALL TIMES; otherwise cupping, gapping, checking and splitting will result, for which there is no warranty.]


This warranty does not cover removal or replacement of cabinets, appliances, furniture or other fixtures.


This warranty does not cover damage to the flooring due to settlement of the building or structural changes in the subfloor.


This warranty does not cover transportation, storage or other handling of the flooring by others.

This warranty gives you specific legal rights and you may have other rights that vary from state to state.


CLAIM PROCEDURE: Submit claims in writing to your dealer where the product was purchased and include a copy of the original sales receipt and photographs of the floor problem. Manufacturer reserves the right to inspect the floor and take samples for analysis.

Care and Maintenance

FAILURE TO FOLLOW THESE CARE AND MAINTENANCE GUIDES WILL VOID THE PRODUCT WARRANTIES AS TO ANY CONDITION OR DEFECT THAT MAY HAVE BEEN AVOIDED.

Your Hardwood Floors are factory-finished with a durable finish, but the consumer must follow some simple care and maintenance procedures to keep the floor looking its best and help to protect it from unnecessary wear and damage.

  1. Sweep or vacuum the floor (with an appropriate broom or vacuum attachment) regularly to keep it clean and free of dirt, oil, dust, grit, sand and other abrasive and foreign materials.

  2. Place area rugs or doormats at entryways to help prevent sand, grit, oils, dirt and other abrasive or staining materials from being tracked onto the floor surface from outdoors. Avoid rubber-backed or similarly dense matting materials that may trap moisture between the mat and the floor; choose mats that enable airflow instead and do not discolor the floor.

  3. Place protective mats at high-use work areas such as sinks, ranges and workstations.

  4. Protect the floor from any exposure to liquids, water and other forms of moisture. Blot up any spilled food, drink, or other liquid immediately.

  5. Never wet mop the floor when cleaning. The floor finish is not waterproofing.

  6. Avoid walking on the floor with wet feet or footwear.

  7. Use a damp – not wet- and clean cloth to wipe up spills or spots as soon as they happen. If such cleaning does not remove the stain, then contact a flooring professional to determine if and how such stain may be treated.

  8. Ensure that environmental conditions are maintained with a temperature of between 60-78° F and relative humidity at between 35-55% AT ALL TIMES; otherwise, cupping, gapping, splitting will result, for which there is no warranty.

  9. Hardwood flooring will naturally undergo a change in color as it adjusts to the ambient light conditions of your home environment. The degree of color change varies by species. To ensure a uniform change, it is recommended that you do not place area rugs on the new floor for sixty days after installation. Thereafter, periodic re-arrangement of furniture and area rugs will help ensure that you're flooring colors evenly.

  10. Install felt pads on the feet of all furniture and accessories that will be placed directly onto the floor surface.

  11. Avoid letting sharp or pointed objects come into contact with the floor surface. Do not walk on the floor with high-heeled shoes, sports cleats, or other types of footwear, which may damage the finish or cause indentations to the surface.

  12. Pets' nails will scratch and mark the floor surface. Keep pets' nails trimmed to minimize damage to the surface.

  13. Do not drag, push or roll appliances, furniture or any heavy object across the floor. Use heavy-duty moving mats, dollies, or other moving aids to protect the floor surface.

 

Cleaning

  • Routine sweeping or vacuuming will keep the floor clear of most dust, grit and debris.

  • For more thorough cleaning, use a wood floor cleaning solution approved for use with your Hardwood Flooring (available at your dealer). Follow the product instructions.

  • Never use any household or furniture "dust remover," polish," or similar product.

  • Never use any oil-based cleaner, wax, polish, or other product (with the exception of products that are finished with the OSMO oil finish which requires OSMO oil maintenance products to be used).

  • Never use any detergent, soap, steel wool, scouring pad or the like, or any other abrasive or ammoniated cleaner.

Warranty

PRODUCT LIMITED WARRANTIES

 

THESE WARRANTIES APPLY ONLY IF THE FOLLOWING SIX (6) CONDITIONS ARE MET: (1) THE ORIGINAL CONSUMER WHO PURCHASED THE FLOOR IS MAKING THE WARRANTY CLAIM, (2) THAT CLAIM IS FOR THE FLOORING LOCATED AT THE ORIGINAL SITE OF INSTALLATION, IN ITS ORIGINAL MANUFACTURED CONDITION (THAT IS, PROPERLY INSTALLED, REASONABLE WEAR AND USE EXCEPTED), (3) THE FLOOR HAS BEEN USED FOR RESIDENTIAL USE ONLY, (4) THERE HAS BEEN FULL COMPLIANCE WITH ALL OF THE OTHER PROVISIONS OF THESE LIMITED WARRANTIES, WITHOUT EXCEPTION, (5) MANUFACTURER HAS BEEN FULLY PAID FOR THE FLOORING AND (6) MANUFACTURER RECEIVES THE CLAIM WITHIN SIX(6) MONTHS OF THE OCCURRENCE OF THE ALLEGED DEFECT. THESE WARRANTIES ARE NOT TRANSFERABLE. THESE WARRANTIES MAY NOT BE ALTERED BY ANY DEALER, INSTALLER, AGENT, DISTRIBUTOR OF THIS HARDWOOD FLOORING, OR ANYONE ELSE.

Manufacturing Lifetime Warranty:

For the lifetime of the originally installed flooring, the manufacturer warrants that this Hardwood Flooring shall not contain manufacturing defects caused by improper milling, dimension, or grading [AND as to engineered flooring, improper assembly and lamination also], individually or together, in excess of industry standards (that is, 5% of the total flooring installed, except as to the finish, which must affect at least 10% - see below). Any defects, individually or together, affecting less than 5% of the installed floor (10% as to the finish) are not covered.

 

If manufacturing defects are present in excess of industry standards in the uninstalled wood flooring, then the defective pieces should be returned to the original place of purchase PRIOR TO INSTALLATION. IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE CUSTOMER AND INSTALLER TO INSPECT ALL PIECES OF FLOORING FOR DEFECTS PRIOR TO INSTALLATION. FLOORING THAT HAS BEEN INSTALLED WILL BE DEEMED TO HAVE BEEN ACCEPTED BY THE CUSTOMER AND WILL NOT BE ELIGIBLE FOR REPLACEMENT EXCEPT AS TO LATENT DEFECTS COVERED BY THIS WARRANTY.

 

If manufacturer deems the flooring to be defective, manufacturer will replace it with an equivalent quantity of the same or similar product at no charge to the customer. If manufacturer is unable to furnish an equivalent replacement product, manufacturer may, at its sole discretion, elect to refund to the customer a portion of the original purchase price equivalent to the apportioned purchase price of the defective portion of the floor. Under no circumstances will the value of a warranty claim exceed the original purchase price of the product.

Fifty Year Finish Warranty:

The manufacturer warrants that the factory finish on this Hardwood Flooring will not wear through for a period of 50 years from the date of purchase under normal residential traffic conditions and use in excess of 10% of the total flooring installed – any defects, individually or together, affecting less than 10% are not covered, and PROVIDED THAT THE CARE & MAINTENANCE GUIDE AND THE INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS HAVE BEEN FULLY COMPLIED WITH. If wear-through does occur within the warranty period, manufacturer will, at its sole discretion, either repair the affected portion of the floor or replace it with an equivalent quantity of the same or similar product at no charge to the customer. If manufacturer is unable to repair the product or is unable to furnish an equivalent replacement product, manufacturer may, at its sole discretion, elect to refund to the customer a portion of the original purchase price equivalent to the apportioned purchase price of the defective portion of the floor. This is the sole remedy provided by this warranty. Any other incidental or consequential damages or costs incurred by the customer as a result of the defective piece of flooring, including any labor costs incurred to remove and reinstall affected portions of flooring, will not be covered by this warranty.

THE FOLLOWING CONDUCT AND CONDITIONS ARE NOT COVERED BY THE LIMITED WARRANTIES AND ARE NOT DEEMED TO BE MANUFACTURING OR FINISH DEFECTS:


Naturally-occurring imperfections and variations in color, grain and appearance are inherent to the nature of the product and are not considered defects.

 

  • Such imperfections and variations that may differ from illustrations and samples.

  • The color of hardwood is affected by natural light and flooring will change color after installation.

  • New or replacement hardwood flooring may not match display samples, existing flooring, or other products and furnishings in your home.

  • Surface wear in high traffic areas (such as doorways, hallways, in front of appliances and sinks, etc.).

  • Gloss reduction is not considered surface wear.

  • Scratches, indentations, marks, stains or other damage caused by negligent or accidental exposure to pebbles, grit, sand or other abrasives, contaminants, pets, insects, high heeled or cleated shoes, fire, product spills, excessive moisture, heat or dryness are not considered normal wear and are not covered by this warranty.

Installation must be performed in accordance with the installation instructions included with the product and in accordance with local building codes. Hardwood Flooring is for indoor residential use only. 

Environmental conditions must be maintained as specified, with a temperature of 60-78° F and humidity at 35-55% at all times. Exposure to higher or lower levels of heat and/or humidity may result in expansion and/or contraction of the floor boards resulting in separation between joints, cupping or splitting of boards, or other problems. Problems resulting from exposure to levels of heat and/or humidity other than those specified herein are not covered by this warranty. 

Damage caused by flooding, broken pipes, wet mopping, moisture, liquid, chemicals, or any other exposure to any contaminants. 

Gapping, splitting, cupping or other problems resulting from exposure to improper environmental conditions.
